old stuff...

I was looking through some old stuff while registering for Thing A Day 2012 so, I thought I'd add some stuff here for you to see:
My fireplace.  I cut particle board to fit into my fireplace and covered it with foam and felt.  The bottom layer is semi-circle shaped pieces cut out and covered with brown felt to mirror logs.  The sides are black felt and the back is red, yellow and orange felt with an added layer of shiny orange to make it pop.  I did it because we do not use the fireplace and I wanted it to be safe and fun for my daughter.  She plays in there often and even naps in there occasionally.

Rocket blanket for Mercury.

Shell Model blanket for Mercury.  (The shell model for the element Mercury illustration the number of protons and neutrons in an element layer by layer.)
Homemade prenatal headphones that wrap around belly with adjustable rings and headphone jack.

New Sling!!!

I made my first new sling in a while for a friend's sister (pictured below)  I LOVE ring slings, I sill use mine with my toddler at the airport, art shows and other not-so-nice to strollers or roaming feet locations.  I am selling custom slings on Etsy is anyone is in need.  They are great for carrying small babies all day.  They don't hurt your back at all, babies can sleep, nurse or just hang around watching everything you are doing.

Having made it through the holidays I rested just long enough to freak out about having to make a spectacular cake surprise for my husband's birthday.  Last year's cake was an "ACME" bomb...

that was quite literally a bomb.  By the way, do not eat after exploding.  So what to do this year, well another exploding cake of course.  This year it was 3 sticks of dynamite (cake dynamite with another source of "boom" inside them) wired to an alarm clock.
The original cake.

Post first detonation (small boom).
Post second detonation.  The hole to the left is from the ACME cake and the smaller hole at the bottom of the cake spray is from the Dynamite cake.

After the first detonation, our daughter saying, "Daddy cake, Boom!"
